Brief Description
Numbers, problem-solving and learning new skills appeal to you? Looking for a career where you can gain qualifications, earn a salary and put what you learn into practice every day?
At Wilson Howe – Chartered Accountants, we’re looking for our next AAT Accountancy Apprentice to join our growing team.
Training to be Provided
- Training that takes you somewhere
- We want your apprenticeship to be the start of a career, not simply a qualification
- You’ll receive practical training and guidance from experienced colleagues, alongside your AAT studies via day release to college
- You’ll have dedicated time for your apprenticeship training during your normal working hours, in line with the requirements of your programme
- Our aim is to help you develop the technical knowledge, confidence and professional skills to progress within accountancy, with opportunities for further AAT study and potential longer-term employment with the firm
- We have a track record to be proud of: six of our seven current employees progressed from apprenticeships into permanent roles with us
- We believe in developing people from within and giving our team the opportunity to grow
Future Prospects
- Opportunity to further progress study, and complete the AAT to level 4 becoming a qualified Accountant (MAAT)
- Opportunity to progress your career and become a full time member of staff once the apprenticeship is completed
Vacancy Detail
You’ll gain experience in areas including:
- Bookkeeping and accounts – recording transactions, processing invoices and helping keep financial records accurate
- Reconciliations and reporting – checking figures, investigating differences and making sure everything adds up
- Cloud accounting and technology – using modern software to process information and help us work smarter
- Client service and administration – communicating professionally and helping keep the practice running smoothly
- You’ll start with the basics and build your knowledge, skills and responsibilities as your confidence grows
💡 What will you be doing?
No two days need to be exactly the same. You’ll help our team with tasks such as:
- Processing receipts, payments, invoices and banking transactions
- Maintaining accurate financial records, ledgers and spreadsheets
- Completing bank and finance reconciliations
- Assisting with VAT and tax returns
- Supporting the preparation of monthly and annual accounts
- Checking calculations and investigating discrepancies
- Using accounting software, Microsoft Excel, Word and other digital systems
- Keeping electronic client records organised and helping us maintain our paperless approach
- Supporting client communications, general administration and the smooth running of the office
- As part of a small team, everyone plays a part. You’ll also help with everyday office tasks, such as handling telephone enquiries, welcoming visitors, managing post and preparing documents
- These tasks are a normal part of working in a small practice and will be balanced with your developing accountancy responsibilities
