Brief Description

You will be the servicing or refurbishing grinding machines by interpreting drawings or manuals and planning the work to ensure the right tools, equipment and resources are available to complete the task to the required specifications. Fitters are required ensure on completion of the task, the machine or system operates correctly.

Training to be Provided


  • Training will take place both on-site at The Churchill Machine Tool Company Ltd and weekly day release at the Rochdale Training

  • Engineering Fitter Level 3 apprenticeship standard

  • Once qualified, progression is offered to the correct candidate, this can include full-time positions or pay increases

  • Replace, repair or remove components in mechanical equipment and ensure its return to operational condition

  • Diagnose and determine the cause of faults in mechanical equipment

  • Assembling components to produce equipment, machine or system- in full or part

  • Handing over completed assemblies or machines, including storage and commissioning

  • Interpreting and following drawings, diagrams or specifications for required components or assembly

  • Manual handling and lifting equipment, including overhead cranes and forklifts

  • Tooling and maintenance

  • Quality control and inspection

  • Documentation and reporting

  • Health and safety


You will be supported to undertake recognised qualifications whilst gaining on-the-job experience. As an apprentice engineering fitter, you will work under the guidance and supervision of experienced engineers and learn the skills required to maintain, repair, install and commission machines.

Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that's part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).
