Brief Description

Working alongside qualified technicians who will be dealing with all aspects of the maintenance and repair of heavy vehicles. You will work towards a level 3 heavy vehicle technician qualification. Inspecting and repairing a range of heavy vehicles (HVs) and trailers for dealerships, independent garages and franchise and large fleet operators.

Training to be Provided

Not only will Apprentices be working and be trained at a DAF garage, they will attend the DAF Academy in Nottingham four times a year for two-week periods to work towards their Level 3 Heavy Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician apprenticeship standard qualification.


An advisor will visit at least every six weeks as part of a close support network to ensure that Apprentices are both enjoying and succeeding in their course.


An Apprentice’s training includes:



  • Level 3 Heavy Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician apprenticeship standard

  • Technical certificate

  • Functional skills in English and maths level 2 if required

  • Recognised welding certificate

Day to day tasks will always vary. DAF technicians will be expected to see whether components and systems are secure and working properly.


The DAF Technicians jobs fall into three categories:



  • Servicing – working to manufacturer servicing guidelines to ensure vehicle running at optimum performance

  • Maintenance - replacing parts that have wear and tear before they fail

  • Repair - diagnosing the reason for vehicle failure and fixing the problem
