Brief Description

The Apprentice Welder Fabricator will be trained in fabricating and welding metal for the quarrying industry and will be expected to become proficient in welding raw steel components using propane, MEA (manual electric arc) and MIG (metal inert gas).

Training to be Provided

An apprenticeship includes regular training with a college or other training organisation. At least 20% of your working hours will be spent training or studying.

Future Prospects

Post-apprenticeship to obtain “coded” status, taking on more complex projects and troubleshooting difficult welds. Ensuring quality control and enforcing safety standards. 


 

Vacancy Detail

Working within the Fabrication Shop, the apprentice welder fabricator will be required to:



  • Read and understand and follow engineering drawings

  • Work to engineering tolerances

  • Use the most suitable welding method for the job in hand

  • Use various hand and power tools (grinders, cutting torches, hand files, hammer)

  • Inspect and test cuts and joins, through the use of a variety of measuring equipment, micrometers etc


In addition to learning the skills of a welder fabricator, you may also be cross-trained in the use of a Plasma Machine.

Other Information

Must be able to commute to Maple Court, Walker Road, Coalville and Leicester College.
