Brief Description
To undertake a structured engineering apprenticeship within the Toolroom and Automation Engineering department, supporting the manufacture, maintenance, and improvement of production Press / Mould Tooling, Jigs & Fixtures, and automated equipment used within a Tier 1 automotive manufacturing environment.
Training to be Provided
- College day release which includes two days in Year 1, and one day in both Year 2 and 3
- Assessor visits to the workplace
- Allocated mentor within the workplace

- After completion of apprenticeship progression within the company is available to other roles such as manufacturig engineer, toolroom engineer and more
Vacancy Detail
Toolroom & Tooling Support:
- Assist with the manufacture, assembly, repair, and modification of production tooling, including jigs, fixtures, Mould and Press
Tooling:
- Support Tool break-down, fault diagnosis, cleaning, and rebuild activities
- Assist with Tool trials, tool improvements, and production support activities
- Learn and support Tool change and Tooling setup activities where required
Preventative Maintenance:
- Assist with planned preventative maintenance (PPM) activities on Tooling and automation equipment
- Support the monitoring and recording of Tool life, wear, and failure modes
- Assist with root cause investigation of Tooling or automation related production issues
Engineering & Technical Skills Development:
- Learn to operate Toolroom equipment, including: Milling machines (manual & CNC), Lathes, MIG/TIG/Laser Welding, Drill presses and tapping machines, Tool polishing and finishing equipment, 3D prototype/printing
- Develop competence in the use of precision measuring equipment including: Vernier callipers, Micrometers, Height gauges, Dial indicators
- Learn to read and interpret engineering drawings, Tooling drawings, and technical specifications
Quality & Continuous Improvement:
- Work in accordance with automotive quality standards (IATF 16949) and company procedures
- Support continuous improvement activities relating to tooling, automation, and manufacturing processes
- Assist in identifying opportunities to improve Tool reliability, uptime, and production efficiency
- Engage with DX transformation learning to adapt & work with new ways of doing
Health, Safety & Environmental:
- Follow all Health & Safety procedures, risk assessments, and safe working practices
- Ensure correct use of PPE and lifting equipment when handling Tooling
- Support the maintenance of 5S standards within the Toolroom and engineering areas
- Report any unsafe conditions or equipment defects immediately
- Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with Health & Safety procedures and company standards. (GDAS)
