Working Week: Monday to Friday with a day release to college. Exact hours to be agreed between the apprentice and their manager.
Brief Description
This role will be based within our Sport, Food and Creative Technology departments. The work involves supporting children individually, in groups or as a whole class in school. You will engage with students across a range of abilities and undertake duties that support the teacher, such as preparing lesson resources and spaces.
Training to be Provided
- The apprentice will attend the FIlton Campus of SGS College for their learning which will be on a weekly basis, term time only
Future Prospects
After a Teaching Assistant apprenticeship, you can typically progress through these stages:
Senior Support:
- Become a Higher-Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to lead classes or a Senior TA to manage staff
Specialisation:
- Move into SEN support, Pastoral care, or Learning Mentor roles
Teacher Training:
- Use your experience to enter a Teacher Degree Apprenticeship or a PGCE route to gain Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
Completion of the apprenticeship program does not automatically lead to continued employment.

Specialist Curriculum Support Apprentice (Sport, Food and Creative Technology Dept)
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Relationships:
- Promote the organisation’s ethos, including diversity, inclusion, equality, and challenging stereotypes, bullying, or harassment
- Build effective working relationships with your line manager and team to ensure smooth practical/technical support
- Implement safeguarding and safe practice (including online safety) while maintaining confidentiality
- Work collaboratively with teachers, SENDCo, external advisors, and parents/carers to support learners
- Maintain positive relationships with external providers, contractors, and suppliers
- Establish professional relationships with students and offer practical/technical assistance
- Communicate professionally with all stakeholders across various communication methods
- Liaise with site staff regarding equipment setup/movement as required
- Collaborate with Technicians across the academy/federation to share best practice and improve provision
People Management:
- Provide technical and practical advice to staff and students; demonstrate equipment use when required
- Support classroom activities by demonstrating safe use of resources, machinery, and equipment
- Understand learner needs and apply strategies to help them achieve learning goals
- Promote engagement and foster independent learning behaviours
- Build positive learner relationships and uphold the school’s behaviour policy
- Support learners’ social, emotional, and mental wellbeing, in line with policies
- Deliver individual or small‑group teaching within agreed parameters alongside teaching staff
- Support assessment and planning through monitoring, recording, and reporting learner outcomes
Resource Management:
- Prepare curriculum resources (e.g., food prep, apparatus setup, risk assessment review) for lessons, networks, CPD days, and events
- Set up and clear away resources for practical activities
- Develop skills in the safe storage and handling of materials, equipment, and specialised resources
