  • Working Week: Normal hours on site at the NT are 8:30am - 4pm. There may be rare occasions where these may have to be changed to suit the requirements of the business. 35 hours per week, including 6 hours per week in off-the-job training.

Brief Description

The National Theatre maintains high-quality stages and buildings. Its Facilities Department ensures all built environments and assets are well maintained by a skilled team. Training to be Provided

The apprenticeship is split between the National Theatre (NT) and City of Westminster College (CWC). The apprentice will study for a Level 3 Building Services Design Technician apprenticeship alongside workplace learning. Time will be provided during the week for study and attendance at college and completion of assignments is a requirement of the role.

Future Prospects

After completing this Level 3 Mechanical & Electrical Apprenticeship, candidates will be qualified to work as Building Services Technicians with skills in mechanical and electrical systems. This can lead to roles such as Maintenance Engineer Facilities Technician or M&E Technician, or further study in Engineering or Building Services Management leading to senior technical or supervisory roles within facilities management or the built environment.

  • Learn and fulfil the requirements of a building services and maintenance, mechanical and electrical technician

  • Attend day to day project progress, design and specification meetings

  • Comply with the NT’s policies and procedures

  • Carry out other reasonable duties as requested by the Senior Facilities Building Services Manager

  • Work as part of a facilities team supporting building services maintenance, fault-finding and installation

  • Must be suitable for Level 3 study and not already hold a related degree, HND or postgraduate qualification

  • Able to work as part of a team and communicate with company staff and the public

  • Reliable with good time management and able to manage workload and meet deadlines

  • Willingness to work at height or in confined spaces with PPE and training provided

  • Commitment to attending college, completing assignments, and meeting apprenticeship requirements

  • Interest in engineering construction and facilities management

  • Must integrate sustainability considerations into work in line with the National Theatres' environmental goals
