Brief Description

Tata Steel are currently looking to recruit a Machinist Apprentice for our Engineering Shop at our Corby site. The Engineering Shop has received over £500k in new machinery investment in the last 5 years and within the next year will be relocating to a new workshop on the Corby site.

Qualifications Required

You’ll need to have 5 GCSEs or equivalent (including English, Maths and Science) at Grades A* - C or level 4 – 9 or equivalents.

You will need to have a genuine interest in Engineering and show a passion for this type of work.

Level 3 Engineering Technician - Mechatronics Pathway

Vacancy Detail

The Engineering Shop provides services and support for our tube manufacturing operations. This primarily includes the following:
Test Pieces
Machining of tube samples using a combination of CNC vertical machining centers and manual machines to create test pieces for onsite mechanical testing
Roll Re-Profiling
Re-profiling on rolls used to form, size and shape our cold tubes, using CNC lathes
Roll Stand Turning
Machining of roll stands used to stretch reduce and shape our hot tubes, using bespoke specialist machines
Maintenance & Repair
Machining one off and small batch components from stock material or refurbishment of parts. Either as part of planned plant maintenance or plant breakdowns
Use of various machines including manual centre lathes, manual turret milling machines, radial arm drills, horizontal boring mill, vertical boring mill, slotter, surface grinders, CNC bed mill, CNC VMC’s and CNC lathe’s.

The Machinist Apprentice will initially work with experienced team members to build knowledge and competency with manual machines such as lathe turning and milling. Following this further training will be provided on CNC operation, setting and programming.
