Brief Description

At King James I Academy we pride ourselves on the support we provide to our students, helping them to achieve excellent results and ensuring they are well cared for and supported. We are looking for an individual who can support the Academy in doing this through the Learning Support Assistant Apprenticeship. 

Training to be Provided

Teaching Assistant Level 3.


The apprenticeship will take place at King James I Academy, South Church Road, Bishop Auckland, DL14 7JZ with 1 day release to Bishop Auckland College, Woodhouse Lane, Bishop Auckland, DL14 6JZ.

Future Prospects

Those who successfully complete the apprenticeship can gain employment within a school environment as a Learning Support Assistant.

Vacancy Detail

You will support the student by:



  • Attending to the pupils’ educational needs

  • Support the carrying out of pre-determined educational activities and programmes of learning whilst promoting independent learning

  • Establish a supportive relationship with children and parents, acting as a role model and being aware of and responding appropriately to individual needs

  • Encouraging acceptance and inclusion of the children with special needs

  • Promoting and reinforcing the child’s self-esteem and to act independently as appropriate 

  • Supporting pupils in respect of learning strategies e.g. literacy and numeracy, as directed by the teacher

  • Supporting pupils in using basic ICT as directed, including using Google Classroom to support remote learning


You will support the teacher by:



  • Displaying pupils work as directed by the teacher/senior colleagues.

  • Undertaking pupil record keeping as requested.

  • Being aware of pupil problems/progress/achievements and report to the teacher as agreed
