Brief Description
To support the laboratory team by performing routine testing, data management, and laboratory maintenance, gaining a Level 3 Laboratory Technician qualification through a structured apprenticeship.
Qualifications Required
GCSEs in Maths, English, and a science subject (or equivalent) at grade 4-9 or equivalent.
Personal Qualities
- Ability to work unsupervised following a planned work schedule
- Writing and numeracy skills
- Familiarity with computers / keyboards / typing skills
- Word, Excel, Access – statistics, graphs, data analysis
- General awareness of importance of safety, and in particular safety issues of working in a laboratory.

Vacancy Detail
Primary Purpose of the Role: To support laboratory operations by assisting with the preparation, testing, analysis, and recording of samples while developing the technical knowledge, practical skills, and professional competencies required to become a qualified Laboratory Technician. The apprentice will work safely, follow laboratory procedures and quality standards, and contribute to accurate and reliable scientific results.
Key Accountabilities

• Assist with the preparation and processing of samples for testing and analysis.
• Support laboratory technicians in carrying out routine laboratory procedures.
• Operate laboratory equipment safely and accurately following training.
• Prepare reagents, solutions, and materials required for testing.
• Record and maintain accurate laboratory data and documentation.
• Ensure laboratory areas are kept clean, organised, and compliant with safety standards.
• Assist with stock control, ordering, and storage of laboratory supplies.
• Follow company procedures, quality standards, and health and safety regulations.
• Dispose of laboratory waste in accordance with established procedures.
• Participate in training and complete apprenticeship coursework and assessments.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues to support laboratory objectives.
