Brief Description

Kick-start your engineering career with a Machining Apprenticeship at Nasmyth. Learn manual and CNC milling and turning, programming, tooling, and inspection techniques while working alongside skilled engineers in a leading aerospace manufacturing environment.

Training to be Provided

The successful candidate will work towards a recognised Machining Technician Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard. Training will be delivered through a combination of practical workplace learning and off-the-job training with the training provider. The apprentice will receive hands-on training from experienced machinists, developing skills in manual and CNC milling and turning, machine setting, tooling, CNC programming, inspection techniques, and engineering drawing interpretation. Working within an aerospace manufacturing environment, the apprentice will gain experience machining stainless steel, aluminium and other engineering materials while learning industry-standard quality requirements, manufacturing processes, and health and safety procedures.

Progression to full-time employment.

As a Machining Apprentice, you will work alongside experienced engineers and learn a range of machining and manufacturing skills within a busy aerospace engineering environment. Your duties will include:



  • Learning all aspects of manual and CNC milling and turning

  • Assisting with the machining of stainless steel, aluminium and other engineering materials

  • Learning how to set tools and operate machinery safely

  • Developing CNC programming skills

  • Using a variety of measuring and inspection equipment

  • Reading and interpreting engineering drawings and customer specifications

  • Completing job cards and production documentation

  • Following health and safety procedures and working to 5S standards

  • Supporting the production team to manufacture high-quality aerospace components


As your skills and knowledge develop, you will take on increasing responsibility and gain experience across all aspects of machining and engineering manufacture.
