Brief Description

We are seeking a caring, compassionate individual to join our team as a Teaching Assistant Apprentice from September 2026. The role involves supporting pupils with diverse learning needs and promoting inclusive opportunities. Enthusiastic applicants with a passion for primary education are encouraged to apply.

Training to be Provided

You will be completing the Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship Standard with Darlington Borough Council Learning & Skills. This programme equips you with the knowledge and practical skills to support teaching and learning across a range of classroom settings.


Training is delivered through a blend of online learning and expert-led sessions, covering key topics such as supporting pupil progress, safeguarding, behaviour management, and inclusive practice.


Throughout the apprenticeship, you’ll be supported by experienced tutors with real-world education experience. You’ll gain valuable hands-on experience in the classroom, working alongside qualified teachers while earning a nationally recognised qualification.

Future Prospects

Progression on to further training and/or into full time employment.

Duties include, but are not restricted to:



  • Work closely with class teachers and Teaching Assistants to implement individualised learning plans for pupils with all levels of needs and abilities

  • Provide one to one and small group interventions to help pupils overcome learning barriers and achieve academic progress

  • Assist in the creation and adaptation of learning materials to suit pupils’ individual needs

  • Foster a supportive and inclusive environment throughout school where all pupils feel valued and respected

  • Assist with the supervision of pupils out of lesson times, including breakfast club, lunchtimes and playtimes

  • Provide accurate clerical support when required

Other Information


  • You will be required to attend our training centre in Darlington (DL1 1NL) and you will need to make your own way there for drop in training sessions, if required

  • Travel to and from the employer, based at Ulnaby Lane, High Coniscliffe, Darlington, DL2 2LL

  • Hours of work: Monday - Friday 8.00am - 3.30pm. Term time only plus 5 PD days
