Brief Description

We have a great opportunity for an Apprentice Assistant Ranger to join our Parks and Countryside team. This role is being offered as full time, on a fixed term basis for the duration of the apprenticeship.


You will be passionate about conservation and nature, and keen to start you career and develop skills in the sector.

Training to be Provided

This role will require a willingness to complete the Level 4 Countryside Ranger apprenticeship programme which may require travel and 1-week residential learning at University Centre Somerset Group as well as online training workshops. 


To qualify for apprenticeship funding, you need to have been a UK resident for the last 3 years and not solely for educational purposes. You must not already hold a related higher-level qualification.

Vacancy Detail


  • To undertake estate management tasks including maintaining flower beds, cutting grass, planting shrubs, hedge cutting, sweeping leaves, removing litter, maintaining paths and other park infrastructure

  • To undertake regular safety inspections of the parks and address resulting health and safety matters which arise

  • To encourage community involvement and liaise with volunteers to help co-ordinate their work in the park

  • To comply with all health and safety procedures, particularly in regard to machinery and equipment

  • Carry out play area weekly inspections, reporting findings and making safe any issues

Other Information

Whilst this post is based at Westmorland Park you will be expected to work at any of the Bracknell Forest parks and countryside locations as required. 


Ability and willingness to work outside in all weather conditions. 


The ability to carry out tasks which require heavy lifting such as hay bales. 


The post holder must hold a full UK driving licence (or valid equivalent).
