Brief Description
This is an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a laboratory setting while working towards a nationally recognised qualification. The candidate will support the testing and analysis of asphalt materials to ensure compliance with industry standards and customer specifications.
Training to be Provided
You will study on a Level 3 Engineering and manufacturing support technician apprenticeship. On completion of this, you will gain a qualification in Engineering at Level 3 standard.
During the first year of the apprenticeship, your learning will take place at the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre based at Catcliffe, Rotherham, for an initial block of study on a full-time basis. After this, you will attend the Training Centre for one day a week for knowledge study.
Future Prospects
Completion of the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre apprenticeships are nationally recognised qualifications which are acknowledged and respected by employers across the world. These can open the door to many more opportunities, such as Engineering Management and Project Engineering positions across a range of sectors worldwide.

Role & responsibilities:
- Assist in the preparation and testing of asphalt samples using standard laboratory equipment and procedures
- Record and report test results accurately and promptly
- Verify compliance of results and initiate corrective action where necessary
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment in accordance with health and safety regulations
- Support senior technicians in conducting quality control checks on raw materials and finished products
- Help calibrate and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment
- Learn and apply relevant industry standards (e.g., BS EN standards) and internal procedures
- Participate in training and development activities as part of the apprenticeship program
- Perform other duties efficiently and effectively as required by the Technical department
