Brief Description

This is a hands‑on role for someone starting their career in mechanical manufacturing. You’ll learn how a machine shop operates and develop practical skills.You’ll be trained to work from engineering drawings, operate manual milling and turning machines, and use measuring tools to check components during production. 

Training to be Provided

You will be required to attend Advance 1 Campus, Dudley College, DY1 4AD, 1 day per week in term time only.



  • You will receive an Engineering Operative Level 2 - Mechanical Manufacture Apprenticeship Qualification upon sucessful completion of this apprenticeship.

  • You will be assigned an assessor who will visit you in the workplace every 6-8 weeks to support you on your apprenticeship.

  • You may be required to complete English/Maths functional skills as part of this apprenticeship.

Vacancy Detail

The apprentice will support machine shop and quality operations by working from engineering drawings and specifications to manufacture and inspect components. The role involves operating manual machining equipment, using precision measuring tools, and ensuring quality, traceability, and compliance with company procedures.



  • Carry out manual milling and turning operations in line with drawings and specifications.

  • Support machine shop and quality activities as part of the production team.

  • Use measuring equipment such as micrometers, verniers, surface finish testers and digital microscopes.

  • Complete in-process inspections and inspection ready reports accurately. 

  • Operate and programme CMMs and measuring arms as required.

  • Support materials identification. traceability, and calibration of measuring equipment.

  • Follow all machine shop and quality procedures.
