Working Week: Monday - Thursday, 8.30am - 5.00pm and Friday, 8.30am - 3.30pm.
Brief Description
The role will develop the apprentice’s technical capability and understanding of dimensional measurement principles, inspection methods, data integrity, quality requirements and safety within an automotive manufacturing environment, through a combination of formal training and on-the-job learning.

Vacancy Detail
Safety, IATF & Laboratory Governance:
- Follow all Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality procedures applicable to laboratory activities
- Support laboratory activities in accordance with IATF 16949 laboratory requirements, working within defined procedures and under appropriate supervision
- Learn to identify hazards and risks associated with laboratory testing and escalate concerns where necessary
- Maintain laboratory standards through participation in 5S, equipment care and safe systems of work
Measurement, Inspection & Scanning Development:
- Assist with dimensional inspection activities using coordinate measuring machines (CMMs), form tracers, 3D laser scanning systems and hand measurement equipment under supervision
- Progressively develop skills in CMM operation and programming using Mitutoyo M-COSMOS and PC-DMIS software, supported by experienced engineers
- Learn to operate and apply 3D laser scanning technologies for dimensional verification, surface analysis and comparison to CAD models, under supervision
- Develop the ability to interpret 3D CAD data and engineering drawings to support measurement and scanning activities
- Support the preparation of inspection, scanning and measurement reports, including ISIR documentation, for review and approval by a competent engineer
- Develop an understanding of GD&T principles and support dimensional troubleshooting activities with guidance
Laboratory Competence & Measurement Control:
- Learn to operate laboratory test equipment and instrumentation within defined competency and training limits
- Support the use of calibrated and traceable equipment in accordance with laboratory procedures
- Develop an understanding of measurement principles, equipment capability and basic calibration requirements, following defined test methods and work instructions and escalating where standards are unclear
Data Integrity, Analysis & Problem Solving:
- Accurately record measurement and scanning data in line with laboratory documentation and data integrity requirements
- Learn to analyse dimensional and scanning results, identify trends or anomalies and support root cause investigations under supervision
- Assist with non-conformance investigation and corrective action activities in collaboration with Quality and Supplier Quality teams
- Develop awareness of measurement system principles, including basic Measurement System Analysis (MSA)
Quality Engineering Exposure & Continuous Improvement:
- Support Quality Engineering activities across multiple functions, including Receiving Inspection, Supplier Quality Assurance, New Product Introduction, Plant Quality and Warranty, as part of the apprenticeship development programme
- Work with Production and Engineering teams to support measurement- and inspection-related process improvements where opportunities are identified
- Participate in Kaizen and continuous improvement activities to enhance measurement, scanning and inspection effectiveness, efficiency and data reliability
