You will be provided with unparalleled support throughout the duration of your programme. You will develop the skills you need for the job by working alongside IT colleagues whilst gaining hands on experience at the same time as working towards a Data Analyst Level 4 qualification.

Vacancy Detail

As an Apprentice, you will work within the Data, Digital, Development and Systems Team. This is a learning and development role designed to give the post holder broad experience of data analysis within a local authority environment.


Working under the guidance of Data Scientists and other experienced colleagues, you will develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours required for the Level 4 Data Analyst Apprenticeship while contributing to real analytical work across the organisation.


You will: Support the provision of a data service by collecting, organising, analysing and interpreting data to help answer questions, identify trends and support evidence-based decision-making.


Develop skills in inspecting, cleansing, transforming and modelling data, ensuring work is accurate, well documented and completed with appropriate attention to detail.


Communicate data findings clearly to technical and non-technical colleagues, helping others understand what the data shows and how it can be used to inform service planning and improvement.


Assist with the production of reports, dashboards and documentation ensuring information is presented in a clear and accessible way.


Key tasks:



  • Process, prepare and manage data including data collection, cleansing, validation, storage, retrieval and documentation

  • Work with others to understand data requirements and support the development of appropriate analytical products

  • Extract data from a range of systems and datasets, then undertake analysis to identify trends, patterns, issues and opportunities for improvement

  • Use appropriate data analysis, reporting and visualisation tools, which may include Excel, Power BI, SQL or other relevant platforms, to support the creation of reports, dashboards and insight products

  • Apply critical thinking and objective analysis to help form conclusions that are evidence-based, balanced and able to withstand appropriate challenge

  • Design and support the production of routine and ad hoc reports, including clear presentational formats suitable for different audiences

  • Support the translation and sharing of outputs through clear communication, awareness raising and signposting to relevant information

  • Maintain accurate records of analysis, methods, assumptions and data sources to support transparency, quality assurance and future use

  • Work towards successful completion of the Level 4 Data Analyst Apprenticeship, including participation in required learning, portfolio development, off-the-job training and any other development required for the post

  • Adhere to local procedures, particularly those relating to information governance, data protection, data quality, security and responsible use of data

  • Must be 16 or over at the start of the apprenticeship

  • Not in full-time education

  • Be a UK citizen or have proof of right to work in the UK

  • Have lived in the UK/EEA for the last 3 years or more

  • Must have the legal right to work in the UK for the full duration of the apprenticeship

  • You cannot undertake an apprenticeship if you already have a higher qualification in the same subject
