Brief Description
The Governors of this well-respected Church of England primary school are seeking to appoint a highly motivated, enthusiastic and committed Apprentice Teaching Assistant to join our dedicated staff team.
Training to be Provided
- The apprentice would receive a combination of on-the-job training, support from experienced staff and formal apprenticeship learning
- Training would typically include safeguarding and child protection, first aid, health and safety, behaviour support, communication strategies, supporting pupils with SEND and complex needs, promoting independence, equality and inclusion, and understanding how to adapt learning activities
- They would also receive practical training in school routines, working effectively with teachers and TAs, and supporting pupils within both specialist and mainstream classroom settings
- Regular supervision, feedback and mentoring from an experienced member of staff would help the apprentice develop their confidence and gradually take on more responsibility
Future Prospects
- The apprentice can expect to have developed the knowledge, practical skills and confidence to work effectively as a Teaching Assistant within a mainstream school
- They will have experience supporting pupils with a range of needs, including complex needs, both individually and as part of a small team, as well as working within the wider classroom
- They will understand how to promote inclusion, independence and positive learning experiences, use appropriate support strategies and work effectively alongside teachers and other professionals
- They will also have developed their communication, teamwork and organisational skills, providing a strong foundation for continuing their career in education and supporting children and young people
Vacancy Detail
- A typical day for the apprentice will involve working as part of a small, supportive team alongside an experienced member of staff to provide learning opportunities for pupils with complex needs
- The day will follow established routines, including preparing resources, supporting pupils to settle, assisting with individual and small-group learning, and encouraging communication, independence and positive social interaction
- The apprentice will initially observe and work alongside experienced staff before gradually taking responsibility for parts of activities
- They will also have regular opportunities to work within the wider mainstream classroom, supporting pupils during lessons and developing their understanding of the wider TA role
- Time will be provided each day for guidance, reflection and feedback, helping the apprentice to build confidence, develop practical skills and progressively work more independently
