Brief Description

Support the maintenance, repair and improvement of buildings and facilities by assisting experienced maintenance professionals with day-to-day tasks that keep buildings safe, well-maintained and fit for use.

Vacancy Detail

Key Tasks / Responsibilities:



  • Assist with planned preventative maintenance and reactive repair tasks across buildings, facilities, and grounds.

  • Support Instructor Technicians with session preparation, general building fabric repairs, including painting, decorating, joinery, plaster patching, and minor masonry work.

  • Help carry out basic plumbing tasks, such as unblocking sinks, replacing tap washers, and checking for leaks under supervision.

  • Assist with basic electrical tasks, including replacing light bulbs, checking fixtures, and supporting qualified staff with minor electrical maintenance.

  •  Conduct routine safety checks, inspections, machinery, plant, MWF, and meter readings, reporting any issues promptly to supervisors.

  • Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas to ensure they are clean, safe, and well-organised.

  •  Respond to maintenance requests in a polite and professional manner, helping to maintain a positive environment for building users.

  • Support the installation, upkeep, and repair of fixtures, fittings, and building components.

  • Shadow experienced colleagues to learn safe and effective property maintenance techniques.

  • Accurately complete apprenticeship logs, assessments, EPA preparation and portfolio evidence as required by Lancaster & Morecambe College.

  • Follow all organisational health, safety, safeguarding, and environmental procedures at all times.

  • Assist with emergency repairs or site issues when required, under the direction of senior staff.

  • Contribute to maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for staff, residents, learners, and visitors.

  • Other duties commensurate with the grade of post, including exam invigilation, as required
